Samantha Richards’ childhood was one of displacement, violence, and a constant need to adapt to a new environment and culture when living in seven countries: Malta, Iran, Sudan, Nigeria, Cyprus, UK, and Australia.
Samantha has faced many challenges in her life, beginning with her family’s evacuation from Iran in 1978 in the revolution that toppled the reign of the last Shah. Returning to the UK with nothing but the clothes on their backs, she had to adapt to a new way of life. Although she could speak English fluently, she could neither read nor write the language proficiently, so achieving English literacy was her first hurdle. She then moved to Africa, and for the next ten years, lived through much more than the average child of her age.
